About the Curator for this Site

A native from Louisiana.  Over the years, Silas has been published in anthologies.  In 1985, his poems "My American Dream" and "Illusion" were published in New Voices in American Poetry.  In 1987, three of his pieces, "Jennifer," "Embrace of Love," and "His Amazing Grace" were entered into New Voices in American Poetry.  The National Library of Poetry has published poems by Sophocles in their publications At Days End 1994, Best Poems of 1995, and Best Poems of the 90's in 1996.  Silas' current publication is Thoughts of a Generation, published in 2017.

He has previously published two works, Food for My Soul and Finding My Way under Watermark Press.

Silas attempts to balance the struggles of life and find a spiritual path to the solutions through his poetic pieces. The writer looks back at the past in search of a future.  This relieves the pains of the struggle, placing them on the solid foundation of truth.  All is questioned. The thirst for equality from hidden visions of hate drives the poet to question the "Why of life." Yet, his faith remains strong in himself, his country, and his God.

Thoughts of a Generation touches the past, where Silas answers Frederick Douglass' and James Baldwin's calls.  His journey is also peppered with darkness.  Silas, however, believes in the positive light that leads him to conclude that his dark journey has strengthened his resolve to be as he was created - to stand still and know that God is leading him.  He calls to his young brothers to stand and not faint.

Silas speaks of love and the importance of faith.  The poet speaks in plain truth, yet inspiring the soul to fight and continue in hope, in love, and God.
